The Value of Having Someone in Your Corner

After several more recent conversations with founders and battle hardened leaders about the loneliness and stress they experience whilst building and running their businesses, and after hearing them talk about how difficult it has been for them to filter through the day to day noise and clutter in their mind to "figure shit out", I want to share a short reminder (and yes, an unashamed gentle plug) that there is a significant benefit to having someone you can talk to, openly and honestly outside of business and family, to explore ideas, thoughts and fears about you and your business.

Not everyone is cut out for starting up and or leading a business and when push comes to shove, not many really want to try it. It is hard, it is challenging it, it is risky, can be incredibly isolating and lonely, and most often involve tears and doubt for months or years! You can only understand how hard it is if you have tried it! On the flip side, it is one of the most rewarding and energising journeys you can embark on.

But remember, it doesn’t have to be a solo mission. Having someone in your corner—whether a trusted advisor, coach, or consultant—can make all the difference to your relationships and how you communicate and engage with people. It will impact how you feel, think and perform!

While 100% committed to your success, this person will not just be there to offer advice and help accelerate when times are good, but more importantly be there to listen and bring an external, impartial perspective, helping you see blind spots, navigate challenges, and uncover opportunities you might have missed. They will understand the practical demands of running a business, but also the emotional toll it can take.

Imagine being able to have a quick chat or call with someone who can:

  • Help you gain clarity and direction when you feel stuck.

  • Challenge your thinking in a way that sparks new ideas and inspiration.

  • Hold you accountable to the actions that will move you forward.

  • Provide a safe space to share your whole reality—both the highs and the lows.

As one young founder put it about their own experience “Each meeting was mind-opening and filled with wisdom. I gained the confidence to find my own voice and share my vision with the world.”

Whether you’re an experienced leader, first-time founder or a serial entrepreneur, having someone in your corner can be the game-changer you need to achieve your goals—both in business and in life. Don't wait until it's too late. As the old song does " . . . everybody, needs somebody, to love....".

Here's a list of Top 10 Positive Outcomes of having that someone in your corner:
